KUALA LUMPUR: From an Employees Provident Fund (EPF)-owned asset to a global luxury brand, HNG Capital Sdn Bhd has transformed one of Penang's most iconic hotels into The Millen—the island's first Autograph Collection property under Marriott International.
The hotel, once celebrated as The Northam All Suite Hotel, was acquired by HNG Capital in 2016 from the EPF. In 2020, the company launched an ambitious renovation and rebranding exercise to breathe new life into the landmark.
Five years and a multimillion-ringgit investment later, the property has reopened as The Millen, redefining luxury hospitality on Penang's famed Millionaire's Row.
Blending colonial charm with modern sophistication, the 146-room five-star hotel offers panoramic views of the Andaman Sea and George Town's skyline. Its suite collection ranges from the Colonial and Straits Lofts to the opulent Sterling Suites. The highlight is the 156m² Silver Suite - one of Penang's largest two-bedroom Presidential Suites.
HNG Capital chief executive officer Datuk Sean H'ng Chun Hsiang said the project reflects the company's strategy of investing in high-value, community-driven assets while strengthening Penang's positioning as a world-class destination.
"The opening of The Millen reflects our unwavering commitment to redefining luxury hospitality while honouring Penang's heritage. More than just a hotel, The Millen supports local artisans, talents and businesses, ensuring that tourism continues to create value for the community," he said in a statement.
Since welcoming its first guests on Feb 3, 2025, The Millen has already earned industry acclaim, securing the Best Luxury Hotel Award in The Gold List 2025 by IM First Class - a recognition that cements its role as a new benchmark in Penang's thriving hospitality landscape.
